If you share our belief in the power of community and enabling individuals to flourish regardless of background or circumstances join us as our next Chair.
Based in North Camden, The Winch is a community-based organisation, best known for our youth, children and family-run services, especially for young people aged 0-25 years of age. We believe positive changes can happen when we work together with people and listen to what they know about our area. They know what it’s like to live in it and they know what needs to improve.
We seek to provide personalised help and developmental experiences that assist children, young people and families in overcoming the challenges and disadvantages they face in their environment, find their place and feel like they belong in our community.
By fostering collaboration with local residents, services and partners, The Winch is an organisation that is woven into the fabric of the community life and integral to it. We look at long-term investment in our partnership with people – we consider ourselves as long-term patient partners, looking to bridge resources and create opportunities for the talent around us to flourish.
We now seek a Chair who will work in collaboration with our trustees, experienced CEO and capable team to lead us as we embark on our next strategic phase. Camden is a brilliantly diverse area of London, rich in opportunity and talent, but it faces some stubborn and persistent challenges.
Our ideal candidate will be a curious and agile strategic thinker, a problem solver and pragmatist. With a democratic and inclusive approach, you will be someone who can extend and challenge our thinking and bring additional perspectives. Your skills will propel us forward in continuing to seek new ways to engage and work alongside our community, and you will be able to demonstrate care about kinship, community connections and creating more opportunities for participation and belonging.
We are looking for a Chair who feels a connection with our values and an affinity with the communities we serve. This could be rooted in personal or professional experience, as well as a commitment to learn, respond and adapt, working in partnership to effect enduring change.
Whilst you will have substantial charity governance experience and able to operate confidently and impactfully as our next Chair we are open-minded about background. It’s important you have the strategic experience to evolve our ambitious next strategy and a level of poise and comfort in adapting this as we navigate and respond to a continuing changing landscape.
We have the potential to grow and extend our work so experience of supporting organisational growth, building capacity and developing funding and sustainability would be advantageous.
The Board holds four formal meetings a year, plus an AGM. In addition, the Chair will be expected to attend regular one- to- one meetings with the Chief Executive as well as other meetings and events during the year. The Chair may also join the Finance Committee of the Board. The time commitment is likely to be one to two days per month.
The Winch is committed to equal opportunity in employment and its employment policies for recruitment are designed to ensure that no job applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, colour, nationality, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, age, ethnic and national origin, disability or gender reassignment.
Closing date: by 9 a.m Monday 13th June 2022
