The University of Winchester is seeking individuals with a range of skills to join its Board of Governors as vacancies arise over the next 12 months. At the current time the University would particularly welcome applications from people with expertise and experience in law, and property development. By joining our Board, successful individuals would be expected to contribute constructively to meeting discussions and share their knowledge and expertise as the opportunity arises.
The University of Winchester has over 7,700 students (6,623 full-time and 1,171 part-time) studying for degree apprenticeships and undergraduate programmes through to Masters and PhD research. Our Undergraduate and Masters programmes span the humanities, arts, digital technology, social sciences, teacher education, business, health, sport and physical wellbeing.
Our Board has five regular meetings a year as well as a Strategy Day. In addition members are expected to join at least one of the six other Board Committees and to engage with wider University events, including attending graduation ceremonies. The approximate time overall commitment as a Governor would be 12 days across the academic year, with the main Board meeting usually taking place on a Wednesday morning at Winchester. Meeting attendance by video or tele-conference can always be accommodated.
Governors are appointed initially for a fixed term of 3 years, with an option to serve for up to a further two terms.

All Board Members would be expected to sign a declaration to confirm that they fulfil the ‘fit and proper’ person criteria as set out by the Office for Students.
Appointments are of a public service nature and are therefore not remunerated. However travel and other direct expenses will be reimbursed.
